cool site - sing365.com

[sing365.com] - i always go to this site when i want to know the lyrics to song. lately they have gotten much better in organizing the site. there are decent biographies of artist, a list of albums and then the lyrics. checked it out next time you want to know the words to a song. WARNING - this site has a lot of pop-ups! before visiting, you should either be using netscape, mozilla or opera with pop-up windows disabled, or if you are using internet explorer install the google toolbar which allows you to block pop-ups on selected sites (you should have these tools already though, right?

chirstmas eve

christmas eve is almost done. everyone has gone home after having a full lovely dinner and desert. pictures should be posted as soon as i get them back.

standing in line

[watch this clip] and think about how long would you stand in line for something. Update: The original user’s dot mac address is no longer valid. But I found a copy of the video on YouTube! [youtube www.youtube.com/watch

cool site

[earthware biodegradables] - another site i heard about on kcbs radio (740 on your am dial) during their eco-talk minute segments. this company makes biodegradable silverware to be used instead of that plasticware we use for parties. it sounds pretty cool. i don’t know how expensive it may be though.

cool site - or maybe not

like everyone else i get sites sent to me from friends and family. i also get website addresses from the radio, newspaper and magazine. i usually record a site to visit on my phone to visit later. well, to the right is a short list of what has been on my phone. i’m going to go visit some of those sites, write a little blurb as to why i had it recorded and why you might want to visit it.

brunch at the hukilau

today we had brunch at the [hukilau] in san jose, a nice little place serving hawaiian food. the brunch was to celebrate the winter solstice, which nobody could really define. so what is the winter solstice? from the [following website]: ‘Winter Solstice also known as Yule, Christmas, and Saturnalia, occurs in mid December. It celebrates the birth of the new Solar year and the beginning of Winter. The Goddess manifests as the Great Mother and the God as the Sun Child.

lotr: return of the king

for the third year in a row, dave and i went to amc mercado to watch lotr. the show, as always, started a little past midnight. there was bout 15 minutes of commercials (yes commercials) then another 10 minutes of previews before the movie actually stated. - small movie review will follow later. the movie didn’t let out until about 4:00am. i wasn’t able to get out of the parking lot right away, so the trip home took about 1/2 hour.

keeping up with the flu

[keep up with the flu] the cdc has put up the above resource to keep track of this year’s flu outbreak.

i remember that night....

i remember this night, 11 years ago today. it was the night my father died. i remember pretty much everything that night, and right now i’m not going to go through the details. i just wanted to write down that i do remember, that i do think about my dad every day since then. and that i miss him.

idiot in sunnyvale

Man Targets Canadian Company He Wrongly Believed Was Source Of Spam SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A Sunnyvale man has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly making death threats against a group of Canadians he mistakenly believed was responsible for sending him online material about how to enlarge his penis. Charles Booher, 44, was arrested by FBI agents on Thursday. Authorities say Booher repeatedly made death threats by phone and e-mail against the employees of a Canadian company that he mistakenly believed was the source of a large volume of unsolicited e-mail advertising he was receiving about penile enlargement medication.

mario, zelda, and the prince of persia

after much research and debate, farrah decided to get a gameboy advance sp. a nice titanium gameboy advance sp. the idea to purchase such a shiny new toy came from playing the new/old game super mario advanced 4: super mario 3. the super mario game is just like the older super mario 3 game, which farrah says she enjoyed so much. she also got zelda which is another addictive game on the small screen.

funny how the net works

can you ever make a mistake in this world, especially when you’re famous? nowadays i suppose not. a friend forwarded me a link regarding the paris hiton sex video (don’t ask me for it, i don’t have it). it wasn’t anything interesting. there was nothing different than what you may see in an adult video. but it made me realize that once something hits the internet you are basically screwed.

kayla's church play

just added photos from kayla’s church play back in september. it is available in the family album when logging in at [photo.janella.com]

figured it out

ok, after thinking i screwed up the page somehow, i find that the reason it looked so darn funny was that i haven’t written anything! wow, a program that forces you to write! i like it. so, i just write this quick quick paragraph here right now, just to occupy some space. there are some topics i do want to write about, and some pictures i want to post. it will be just a little longer.

ex-mozilla customer care dinner

tonight i had dinner with some ex-netscape customer care people at chevy’s in sunnyvale. it was good seeing everyone who made it. peter and sue i had only seen several months back at peter’s wedding. the last time i saw heath was at a dinner with dave. david, luis, tricia and michelle i hadn’t seen since being laid-off. dinner was at chevy’s in sunnyvale. i had the habanero steak tacos which was exteremely hot!

the matrix revolutions

farrah and i headed down to the [sony metreon] to watch the [matrix revolutions], the last a trilogy by the wachowski brothers. i would have to rank this third in terms of quality of story and action, behind the other two. so it works, i guess, in descending order. what i liked about the film? the action scenes defending zion were really well done. part initial battle scene in a club was cool.

the curse of the cubs continues?

the chicago cubs are losing right now, 9-4. it seems it shouldn’t have gotten to this point but it has. last night they should have won the game, but a fan got in the way. you can see a still of the play at [thesmokinggun.com] the poor sap will probably have to move out of the chicago area if the cubs lose tonight. if they happen to win tonight he will just be a minor footnote.

pac bell no more

it had to happen sooner or later. pac bell park is no longer. it shall forever be called [sbc park]…for at least 24 years. it just doesn’t sound right, like 3com park didn’t sound right. then it was 3com park @ candlestick point, which surely didn’t sound right. i’m sure 10 years from now sbc park will roll off the tounge, and pac bell will be but a memory. afterall sbc/pac bell did fess up 50 million dollars to help build the ballpark.

site of the day

wish they had this when i went to school [ratemyteachers.com] it’s a site in which you can rate your teachers. some of the reviews can be brutal, most appear to be nice. heard about the site on kgo radio.

one busy morning

ugh, it’s MY monday. it is kind of cool working off the normal monday through friday routine, but man it can wear on you. today everything is being thrown at us. gotta work through it right? the [matrix reloaded] comes out today on dvd. at least that is something to look forward to, or is it? if you saw it you know that there is a lot, a lot lot, of talking in the movie.

staying away from the evil empire

for some reason lately i’ve been trying to use different tools than your basic microsoft install tools. i guess with all the security and virus alerts i’ve been looking out more and more for good web tools. funny thing is i should have done it earlier. i used to work at netscape. for those of you who can remember netscape, they came out with a popular web browser which was fairly dominant.

getting things set

welcome to a new test page for janella.com. yes, i have gotten bored again and wanted to try something new. the new item used is called movabletype and is a personal web blogging program. most of the time visitors are just looking for the link to the photo gallery. well, that is located under the links section. more links will be added soon. i’m not planning on changing the photo gallery program.

meeting mitsuki

so i had the pleasure of meeting mitsuki for the first time today. i saw her as i was picking up doug to go to the s’vale dump (extra dump weekend). saori and doug look great as parents. if you haven’t already you may want to see her photo gallery on [worldwhereyoulive] she seems so tiny in the photos, slightly bigger in person, and i’m sure growing everyday. seeing matsuki makes me realize i need to visit scott, stefanie and skylar.

confidence

while farrah was studying in the room tonight we watched the dvd confidence. it stars edward burns, rachel weisz, and dustin hoffman. the movie is about a crew of grifters who accidently con the bag man of a local crime kingpin. in order to get out from under possibly getting killed, they make a deal with the kingpin to pull a grift for him, allowing him to choose the mark. it gets a little complicated from there.

giants lose

the giants lose to the marlins. no world series this year. ugh.

kayla's play

today we went to see kayla perform at a church play (photos of course to follow when developed). she was fantastic in her performance, both dancing and speaking. she had so many lines that she had to be hooked up to a wireless mike! i was amazed at the production effort put forth by the church. i could tell kayla and those in the performance worked hard to pull it off without a hitch.

what i'm doing now

i noticed, besides the previous post, it has been awhile since i have posted any thing. i’ve been trying to get the photo pages up using the new system which i like pretty much…for now. i’ve only been jobin’ it for these several months. i’ve been trying for other positions at work but they haven’t panned out that well. i’m not sure if it’s my interviewing skills, my lack of time in the company, or my experience but it just hasn’t clicked.

welcome mitsuki-chan!

doug called to tell me saori and him are the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. her name is mitsuki-chan. we have yet to meet her, but i’m sure we will soon, as i’m sure doug will have pictures posted on either his website [http://www.worldwhereyoulive.com/] or his photo pages on [pbase].

and then there was coppermine

changes taken place. new photo program used to catalog images. it’s called coppermine and it uses a database as well as php for photos. it is very much faster than the old setup, and also provides a quick snapshot of new images posted. click on the photos link to login to the new photo. [janella.com] page. you only need to login one time. don’t login to the board yet. i’m not sure if i’ll be requiring that login.

changing things around

ugh. changing some stuff around for now. i’m feeling/thinking photo pages are loading too slow, so i’ve gone back to hand coding. your same username and passwords should work. only new albums are available through the photo link for now.

tori @ sjcpa

the weekend, or more exactly my weekend, was good and bad. saw tori amos with farrah, lotte, and yen (and her tiger pants) on saturday. tori was good as usual. i liked a version of vincent (a don mclean song). sunday brought about a lazy day and trying to complete my taxes. but on sunday my truck was hit again by road debris. my truck must be a debris magnet, as one of my friends said.

optimizing photos

i am working on optimizing the photos for faster loading of both pages and photos. i’m working on limiting size to 640 x whatever, and a max size of 100KB for an image. i’ve read that 30KB is ideal for loading (even on a 28.8 modem connection). this project will take time as i’d like to optimize the images from the source images, for the best picture. to help with the current load time i will be taking some photo galleries off line starting today.

pick-me-up

it’s good to have friends, isn’t? i was pretty down the other day. not a mid-age crisis, but just one of those thinking funks, you know getting caught in a loop of thinking of things you can’t change? but it seems that friends always can pull you out of it. i appreciate the talks and emails. they helped me a lot. i think that’s part of what i miss now, from say three or four years ago.

layout change

site layout change of text pages as well as color scheme. no new photos added.

a little down

as you can see, design and color scheme seems to have changed. call it being bored. i hope the color isn’t too drabby. right now it’s a reflection of my mood. i’m down a little right now. i think i’ve been down for a couple of days now. don’t know why. i think part of it is the job, part of it is the weather, and part of it is the passing of another birthday.

SARS alert

SARS comes to SJO! at least that’s what the news is blurbing this lunch hour. i was hoping it was a april fool’s joke, and i still am hoping. it’s a scary world we live in right now. it probably always has been, it’s just that the news makes bad news more accessible war. disease. famine. is there nothing good going on in this world? i’m sure there is but it doesn’t necessary make the half hour news coverage.

web journal redux?

this is really the beginning of my web journal. i know i’ve made entries using blogger before, but i wanted to get a little more personal. it seems the world today, with what is going on out there and in my head, dictate some thoughts be put down. i’m not good at putting thoughts down on paper any longer. i can’t stand the sight of my own handwriting. so i’m going to type this sucker out, baring some of my soul.

album update

here are the latest photo album additions. all are located under the ’newest additions’ album. Yosemite 2003 Rex’s Birthday 2003 A Day Together in the City AJ Mugging for the Camera check them out and comment when you get a chance.

taxi ride

[flash video of taxi ride] by tori amos. done by a fan i believe.

quick funny site

vulgarity involved, but fun for about 5 minutes [http://members.shaw.ca/wpgclan/whatyouare.htm]

contemplating

i’m sitting here on a thursday night, contemplating life with a cold bottle of sake. otokoyama to be specific. a nice brand (and bottle) provided by doug and saori for christmas. i guess i hope it helps in stirring some thoughts that have been creeping for some time. this year has had its ups and downs already, and it’s only the 23rd day! one of the things on my mind, at least that i can write about now, is my job situation.

super bowl sunday

went to lotte, andy and farrah’s place up in the City to watch to super bowl, and move a tv up there too. the place was nice and big, but the game was long and terrible to watch if you were rooting for the raiders. you figure the raiders would put up a better fight after taking 19 years to get back to the big game. plus all the veterans they had on the team.

the cirque is in town

it’s pretty late right now but wanted to jot down a few thoughts from today. we went to go see [VAREKAI] in san jose. the show was great, and it was the trabers’ and my mom’s first experience. the show and the experience is difficult to describe, so you may want to read more through the link provided above.

stacks, gym...oh, i'm sore

went to stacks yesterday with dave for a little monday brunch on my day off. stacks is a pretty good breakfast/lunch place in campbell. i guess, according to dave, it’s a well known place in redwood city. i guess i don’t know my bay area dining places that well. so after working out the belly i had to hit the gym. the computer to log in to my workout routine seemed to be surprised by my presence.

rainy days and....

listening to diana krall’s Live in Paris on a nice drizzling day. too bad i’m at work right now, otherwise it would almost be perfect. i’m still working on those new year’s resolutions.

smack-down

oh man…my mouth feels like its been punched a hundred times. went to the dentist today for only the second time in…well, in quite a long time. they had to prep a crown as well as do some deep gum cleaning on my left-side of my mouth. lucky me, i get to go back in two weeks to get the actual crown, then subject myself to the right-side deep gum cleaning.

rock the vote

vote for what the california state quarter should look like.

foggy morning musings

it was a nice foggy morning when i got up at 6 AM. i was planning to go up to the City and take some pictures. but the fog, along with the crunchy (can’t explain it otherwise) feeling in my throat has changed my mind today. funny how this feeling doesn’t stop me from going to get a delicious venti mocha from starbucks! right now the fog in sunnyvale has cleared.

harry potter

chamber of secrets… just got back from watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. pretty good flick if you ask me, even if it clocks over 2 1/2 hours! i thought it was better than the first, moving along at a swift pace with a lot of tension and mystery. you can tell the kid leads are getting older, as some of the actor’s voices are changing. it was also good to see richard harris on the screen one last time.

how slow can you go?

slowwwwww this has got to be the slowest longest day in recorded history, and it’s not even MY friday! i figured i would have been off of work what seems like 5 hours ago. but no. it’s only 3-ish in the afternoon. oh man. it’s not like i’ve got somewhere to go or anxiously awaiting something. but man, the clocks gotta tick faster. speaking of ticking clock, i guess i should come up with some new year’s resolutions.

new albums

well, posted new photos in the new albums section. photos from Christmas, the Christmas Gift Exchange, Farrah’s Birthday and Jordan’s Show Choir are now available for viewing. as always if you feel there is an embarrassing shot of yourself on the site and want me to take it down, write to me through the feedback link on top. i’ll then take appropriate action….or not.

always learning

still so much to learn it’s new years day and there isn’t much to do. i had lunch with ali and steven from my former job. they seemed in good spirits considering they were working on this day. other events today include(d) packing some dvds i’ve managed to sell on half.com, an ebay site which allows you to sell things at a set price. i also got to thinking about those pictures i took on christmas eve.
