  • cool site - sing365.com

[sing365.com] - i always go to this site when i want to know the lyrics to song. lately they have gotten much better in organizing the site. there are decent biographies of artist, a list of albums and then the lyrics. checked it out next time you want to know the words to a song.

WARNING - this site has a lot of pop-ups! before visiting, you should either be using netscape, mozilla or opera with pop-up windows disabled, or if you are using internet explorer install the google toolbar which allows you to block pop-ups on selected sites (you should have these tools already though, right?)

  • cool site

[earthware biodegradables] - another site i heard about on kcbs radio (740 on your am dial) during their eco-talk minute segments.

this company makes biodegradable silverware to be used instead of that plasticware we use for parties. it sounds pretty cool. i don’t know how expensive it may be though.

  • cool site - or maybe not

like everyone else i get sites sent to me from friends and family. i also get website addresses from the radio, newspaper and magazine. i usually record a site to visit on my phone to visit later. well, to the right is a short list of what has been on my phone. i’m going to go visit some of those sites, write a little blurb as to why i had it recorded and why you might want to visit it. it’s sort of like netscape’s old cool site of the day - a feature they had long ago when netscape was cool.

    first site up:

[recycle for breast cancer] - i heard about this website on kcbs one day when i was driving to work. the person was asking how and where they could donate old cellphones. one place i have heard of is battered women’s shelter’s who use the phones for communication. antother is this website.

you can go to the website and see the list of cellphones they accept. they will send you a mailer to mail the phone to them. it’s as simple as that. if you have an old cellphone lying around think about donating it.

  • brunch at the hukilau

today we had brunch at the [hukilau] in san jose, a nice little place serving hawaiian food. the brunch was to celebrate the winter solstice, which nobody could really define.

so what is the winter solstice?

    from the [following website]:

'Winter Solstice also known as Yule, Christmas, and Saturnalia, occurs in mid December. It celebrates the birth of the new Solar year and the beginning of Winter. The Goddess manifests as the Great Mother and the God as the Sun Child. The God also appears as Santa Claus and Old Man Winter. Colors are Red, Green, and White. This is a festival of inner renewal."

    so that's your answer.

  • lotr: return of the king

for the third year in a row, dave and i went to amc mercado to watch lotr. the show, as always, started a little past midnight. there was bout 15 minutes of commercials (yes commercials) then another 10 minutes of previews before the movie actually stated. - small movie review will follow later.

the movie didn’t let out until about 4:00am. i wasn’t able to get out of the parking lot right away, so the trip home took about 1/2 hour. ugh. all in all it was fun. the movie was a good cap to the whole trilogy.

Man Targets Canadian Company He Wrongly Believed Was Source Of Spam

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A Sunnyvale man has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly making death threats against a group of Canadians he mistakenly believed was responsible for sending him online material about how to enlarge his penis.

Charles Booher, 44, was arrested by FBI agents on Thursday. Authorities say Booher repeatedly made death threats by phone and e-mail against the employees of a Canadian company that he mistakenly believed was the source of a large volume of unsolicited e-mail advertising he was receiving about penile enlargement medication.

According to court documents, Booher said in a May 31 e-mail that he was “sending a package full of Anthrax spores to your address” and would “put a bullet in your head.” In a June 14 e-mail he threatened to shoot an employee in the spine and then torture him with a “power drill and ice pick.” In a voice mail message he threatened to castrate all of the company’s employees and then kill them “with a shotgun and 30 rounds of ammunition and a hunting rifle.”

Prosecutors say Booher persisted in making these threats even after Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers visited him and ordered him to stop.

Booher faces a maximum possible penalty of five years in prison if convicted. He is currently free after posting a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 11.

  • mario, zelda, and the prince of persia

after much research and debate, farrah decided to get a gameboy advance sp. a nice titanium gameboy advance sp. the idea to purchase such a shiny new toy came from playing the new/old game super mario advanced 4: super mario 3.

the super mario game is just like the older super mario 3 game, which farrah says she enjoyed so much. she also got zelda which is another addictive game on the small screen.

what about me? i’m playing this new version of prince of persia for playstation 2. it’s a nice looking game with cool fighting scenes. my only complaint is that so far it isn’t that challenging.

  • funny how the net works

can you ever make a mistake in this world, especially when you’re famous? nowadays i suppose not.

a friend forwarded me a link regarding the paris hiton sex video (don’t ask me for it, i don’t have it). it wasn’t anything interesting. there was nothing different than what you may see in an adult video. but it made me realize that once something hits the internet you are basically screwed.

if you don’t know who paris hilton is ( and really there is no reason you should know who she is) she is the great granddaughter of conrad hilton (hilton hotels). anyway, this girl comes from very powerful american family and still they cannot stop the streaming video from flooding the internet. i guess money can’t buy you the power to stop the flow of information like this.

the internet has done good of course. i remember back in the late 90’s when south park first hit the internet. it was a large 50mb file that made its way onto many computers and screens. you gotta remember 50mb back then was large, especially when downloading on a 56k modem connection! i remember my friend scott sending the file to his home from work (faster connection at work) and his email at home got stuck!

i just find it interesting that’s all. something to blab about on this page i suppose.

so, i just write this quick quick paragraph here right now, just to occupy some space. there are some topics i do want to write about, and some pictures i want to post. it will be just a little longer.

  • ex-mozilla customer care dinner

tonight i had dinner with some ex-netscape customer care people at chevy’s in sunnyvale. it was good seeing everyone who made it.

peter and sue i had only seen several months back at peter’s wedding. the last time i saw heath was at a dinner with dave. david, luis, tricia and michelle i hadn’t seen since being laid-off.

dinner was at chevy’s in sunnyvale. i had the habanero steak tacos which was exteremely hot! whew.

anyway, i guess this would be only of interest to scott (since he knows who these people are and he’s read this home page), but here’s a quick rundown:

    • peter: working, married in may (i'll post the pics sometime), and driving a nice black mazda rx-8. yeah he got rid of the mustang.
    • sue: not currently working, but i think she's doing some campaign work for general clarke
    • tricia: working at a biotech company that some former egain employees work at.
    • michelle: recently laid-off from the same biotech company that tricia works for.
    • luis: happy and working for a auction site for car dealers (if i remember correctly).
    • david: working in brisbane i think? he was all the way down he table and i only caught bits and pieces of his whereabouts.
    • heath: working in sales and the gym.

it was good seeing everyone. found out shelly is working at the clinique counter at macy’s in valley fair. those who’ve seen her say she’s looking really good. i don’t think anyone knows where nancy is other than she’s married. karen couldn’t make it, but i think she’s married now also. jason and peter f. couldn’t be found either.

it was good getting together with everyone. somewhat interesting to take stock of where everyone is at. this tech slowdown has put a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth, and i seriously think nobody really loves what they are doing for work. not that netscape was all fun and games, but it sure was exciting.

  • the matrix revolutions

farrah and i headed down to the [sony metreon] to watch the [matrix revolutions], the last a trilogy by the wachowski brothers. i would have to rank this third in terms of quality of story and action, behind the other two. so it works, i guess, in descending order.

what i liked about the film? the action scenes defending zion were really well done. part initial battle scene in a club was cool. oh, and monica bellucci in a red latex get-up made the movie too.

the bad? well, i thought it was still too talk-y. not as much as the second one, though that had the car chase scene and the twin dudes going for it. i also thought the ending was so-so.

i say give it a shot as a matinee if you want to see it. i hear it is playing on imax. i don’t think this one is worth it on that big of a screen. may be the first two, but definitely not this one.

  • the curse of the cubs continues?

the chicago cubs are losing right now, 9-4. it seems it shouldn’t have gotten to this point but it has. last night they should have won the game, but a fan got in the way. you can see a still of the play at [thesmokinggun.com]

the poor sap will probably have to move out of the chicago area if the cubs lose tonight. if they happen to win tonight he will just be a minor footnote. i can’t imagine how he must feel with all those eyes, the stares of hatred towards him for possibly screwing up a chance to go to the world series.

but they say one play shouldn’t make a whole game. wait, i think that actually only applies to football. oh well, the guy is screwed.

i’m not saying i’m a cubs fan. out of the teams that are left - the marlins, cubs, red sox, and yankees - i am rooting for the sox and cubs. i am actually a yankees fan out of all the teams, but want to see someone else playing in the big game.

i sort of feel sorry for dusty baker. he goes to another team, after giants, and gets this close to the world series - two years in a row - only to lose it in the eight inning of game six. it must hurt.

  • pac bell no more

it had to happen sooner or later. pac bell park is no longer. it shall forever be called [sbc park]…for at least 24 years.

it just doesn’t sound right, like 3com park didn’t sound right. then it was 3com park @ candlestick point, which surely didn’t sound right. i’m sure 10 years from now sbc park will roll off the tounge, and pac bell will be but a memory. afterall sbc/pac bell did fess up 50 million dollars to help build the ballpark. i guess they get a say in what to call it.

  • one busy morning

ugh, it’s MY monday. it is kind of cool working off the normal monday through friday routine, but man it can wear on you. today everything is being thrown at us. gotta work through it right?

the [matrix reloaded] comes out today on dvd. at least that is something to look forward to, or is it? if you saw it you know that there is a lot, a lot lot, of talking in the movie. it wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t feel so compressed. but the movie has two things going for it: the car chase and [monica bellucci]! so it’s a must buy.

ah, better get back to work.

  • staying away from the evil empire

for some reason lately i’ve been trying to use different tools than your basic microsoft install tools. i guess with all the security and virus alerts i’ve been looking out more and more for good web tools. funny thing is i should have done it earlier.

i used to work at netscape. for those of you who can remember netscape, they came out with a popular web browser which was fairly dominant. until microsoft set their sights on the company. netscape tried its best to survive but couldn’t do so on its own. eventually it was bought out by aol.

anyway the tools i’ve been using lately? well, i like mozilla’s browser. you can download it at [mozilla.org] it’s a cool little browser, but for some reason some of its functions stopped working for me.

after that happened i started using opera, which you can get at [their site] it has been a fairly good stable browser with a lot of features. i have only had a couple of sites where i had to go and use internet explorer or mozilla to view, as opera couldn’t handle the page. but those are few and far between.

for email i have been trying eudora’s latest version, which you can get at [eudora.com] so far it has been an all right email. i’ll have to be honest and say it took a bit of time to import my email from outlook to eudora. i’ll have to give a full report later on how it works.

as far as instant messaging software goes, stay away from the msn thing that comes with windows xp. i’d rather use aim or yahoo! instant messenger, which most of our friends are on. if you are interested in an all-in-one tool consider [trillain]

  • getting things set

welcome to a new test page for janella.com. yes, i have gotten bored again and wanted to try something new. the new item used is called movabletype and is a personal web blogging program.

most of the time visitors are just looking for the link to the photo gallery. well, that is located under the links section. more links will be added soon.

i’m not planning on changing the photo gallery program. i just wanted to mess with a new tool that has been on the web for some time. i’m going to see how configuration goes for the time being.

  • meeting mitsuki

so i had the pleasure of meeting mitsuki for the first time today. i saw her as i was picking up doug to go to the s’vale dump (extra dump weekend). saori and doug look great as parents.

if you haven’t already you may want to see her photo gallery on [worldwhereyoulive] she seems so tiny in the photos, slightly bigger in person, and i’m sure growing everyday.

seeing matsuki makes me realize i need to visit scott, stefanie and skylar. i have to meet skylar or see scott and stefanie in a long time. time to give him a call.
