Mia Takes a Bath
It’s bath time! Mia thankfully enjoys taking a bath. She’s always been calm when she’s doused with water. It sure makes bath time easier. I had to get down into the tub to get this shot with the 50mm lens.

Mia Making Faces
Mia channeling her inner Gene Simmons (not Jean Simmons). She was very active just before bedtime. She just started moving around, making faces, and discovering things in her immediate area. She looked at her feet as if it was the first time she saw them. Perhaps it was the first time she noticed them. Then of course she got a bit fussy because it was bedtime.
Mia and Auntie Susana
We spent part of this past Sunday morning in Santa Cruz. Farrah, Mia and I had breakfast at The Buttery. Afterward, we stopped by my sister’s house to hang out for a while. She suggested we walk over to the local Farmer’s Market, where we’d meet up with Kayla. After coming back from the walk, Auntie Susana put a Snow White barrette in Mia’s hair. Surprisingly, it almost got all of her hair.
Mia in a Hat
This is how Mia looked when we got her ready to meet friends at Stanford Shopping Center one Sunday. Since it was a nice sunny weekend, Farrah decided Mia should wear a hat to ward off the sun. Mia seemed to enjoy the hat, and the day as well.

Mia's First Day at Daycare
Ok, this is a photo for “Make Up Monday” since didn’t post a photo last Wednesday. I took this photo of Mia as Farrah was getting her ready for her first day at daycare. Unfortunately, I was starting to feel sick that morning, so I wasn’t much help to Farrah in getting Mia ready for this day. (Actually, I’m still feeling awful. It’s the meds I’m certain.)
How did Mia’s day go? Actually, it went very well. She was very curious about her new environment. She smiled at everyone who approached her. If there was any negative it’s that she’s still slow at taking the bottle.

Mia's Mohawk
Mia had just gotten out of the bath and was all nice and dry when I took this photo. Her hair, of course, dries into a Mohawk state on its own. This photo was taken on Thursday, September 2, 2010, with an iPhone 3GS.

I propped Mia up on one of Farrah’s pillows while she was in the shower. I managed to get a few good photos of her. This photo was taken on August 29, 2010.

Farrah placed Mia on the Boppy and I took a series of photos. The little lens flare is light from the bedroom window, not some Photoshop effect. This photo was taken on August 22, 2010.
Mia Thinking
This photo was taken with the iPhone 3GS using the Camera+ iPhone app. It was also edited within the same app, and uploaded through the Tumblr app. We were running errands when I took this photo of Mia in the backseat of the car.

Mia and Manang Tiana
Mia’s Manang Tiana is visiting from Hawaii this month, along with her Auntie Jane. This is one of the first photos I took of them together.
Four Weeks
It has been four weeks. In the quiet times, when there is a chance for reflection, time seems to have passed by rapidly. At other times, especially during the crying spells, time seems to move glacially. Either way, it still amounts to four weeks. Mia is now four weeks old.
Things Learned
There are only so many books you can read and so many stories you can hear from others who’ve been through it, to prepare you for a child. I’m sure what we’ve learned is contained in a book, a web site, or a friend’s story, but nonetheless here are a few things we’ve learned:
- Crying doesn’t always mean she is hungry. Sometimes she just wants to be held, especially at 3am.
- Baby acne just happens. Seriously, it wasn’t the gangly beard I grew that caused her face or arm rash.
- Changing one diaper can rapidly digress into changing three diapers.
- During a diaper change, if her butt is angled correctly, she can project a poo stream a good foot away. Yeah, it happened. Luckily I was to her right when it did.
- She’s not cross-eyed. She’s just trying to focus at something far away. Whew!
- Hiccups happen. It seems to not bother Mia as much as us.
- It’s probably wise to do a load of laundry a day, both for yourself and the baby.
- Amazon.com is a great site. It is especially great for subscription services. You can subscribe to diapers, wipes, etc. It’s convenient and saves some money as well.
- Another good site is Diapers.com. I had to call their customer service because of a missed shipment. They were very quick in correcting the issue. They also ship as quick as Amazon does.
- The Baby Geek app for the iPhone / iPad has been very helpful.
The Cuteness
There are many cute things Mia does. I’ve tried to capture the moments on video, but sometimes it’s not possible. Here are a few that I don’t want to forget about:
- After she sneezes, Mia lets out this exhaustive sigh, as if the sneeze took every ounce of energy she had.
- When Mia wakes up, she stretches multiple times, contorting her body in an “S” shape, getting the most out of each consecutive stretch.
- She can lift her own head when doing the over-the-shoulder burp. This makes it difficult to hold her at times.
- From time to time she makes an “O” shape with her mouth as if she’s about to say something. As long as it’s not crying, it’s good.
- She sleeps with her arms raised as if she’s crossing a finish line.
I’m sure the future holds more to come, both in learning and cuteness.
