adidas Originals - Star Wars™ Cantina 2010
The Star Wars cantina scene re-imagined with “David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong and some of your dear, old friends for an intergalactic 2010 FIFA World Cup™ viewing party that you’ll never forget”.
Monday
Monday started off well. We had an early morning appointment where we were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat again. It is always a great thing to hear. But after lunch, my noise canceling headphones decided to break on me. I’ve had them for over two years, which I guess is a decent amount of time. But now I can hear all the talking in the office. It makes it a bit more difficult to concentrate.
I’ll need to hop onto Amazon to search for new headphones.
Japan - The Strange Country
Japan-The Strange Country (English translated ver.) from Kenichi Tanaka on Vimeo.
This Is Informative, You Should Watch It of the Day: Graphic designer Kenichi Tanaka’s animated infographic “Japan — The Strange Country” covers everything you wanted to know about Japan, but were too busy warbling along to the Cowboy Bebop closing credits song to ask.
[discovered via thedailywhat who found it via feingut.]
Update 2: Looks like the video has been taken down. I found it (here)[www.youtube.com/watch though. Update: For some reason, Kenichi had to take down the English version of the video. It’s still available on YouTube here.
Celebrate!

Steak and corn for dinner tonight!
To celebrate the nice day outside, I decided to throw a couple of ribeye steaks and corn-on-the-cob on the grill. Farrah is making bibingka as well.
How do you take your steak?
Missing Link List #4
So much read this week:

Missing Link List #3
This week’s Missing Link List includes:
- 33 things you should stay away from.
- Did you know Apple released a new iPod Nano this week?
- You do have superpowers. You just don’t know you do.
- If you’re in trouble, don’t forget to update your Facebook status.
- An update for Snow Leopard already?
Missing Link List #2
This weeks list includes:

Missing Link List
A Missing Link List (MLL) is a weekly list of links, stories, photos, etc., I happen across during the week. The list will be things I want to share, but had no time to write a full blog entry. This week’s MLL is a build up of two weeks worth of web surfing. I apologize ahead of time if you’ve seen any of these before:
- If you haven’t heard, Starbucks has raised, and lowered, it’s prices. Confusing, huh?
- I’m thinking of doing home cold-brewed coffee to offset my Starbucks addiction.
- I hope unemployment in California doesn’t get worse. Unfortunately, I think it might.
- You can use Twitter for other things, really?
- I have never fully embraced the semicolon. Perhaps I should look into it more.
- StripTea Tea bags are interesting. I wonder how much they cost?
- Tough climate changes ahead for Midwestern states?
- Check out Playgrounder for toys.
Getting Ready for HE
I’m watching videos and reading information on HE (High Efficiency) detergents. We just purchased a new HE washer - waiting for it to be delivered soon. You can watch two more videos on HE information here and here. We were hoping to get a front-loading washer, but space limitations forced us to get a top-loading HE washer. I think it’ll work out great.
Reserve your iPhone 3GS Online
I just reserved our iPhone 3G S for pickup at an Apple Store next Friday. Reserving and buying are two different things, but I’m thinking we’ll end up gettting it. We still have the original 2G version, so our upgrade pricing wasn’t bad. I’ll be happy with the hopefully improved camera and expected bump in overall speed.
My Short Review of Taken
You don’t know what I’m capable of.
Liam Neeson does his best Jason Bourne in this action movie. Neeson is an ex-Preventer who must now use his skills to save his daughter. The movie moves along in a good clip. The violence can get intense at times, but the payoff works.

Marely & Me - My Short Review
Puppies. Evil puppies.
This is another one of those feel-good movies. But if you know your dog movies, then you know what’ll happen. Yeah, it happens, but not after Marley gets a hold of your heart. Wow, did I just write that? If you’ve seen the trailer, then you’ve pretty much seen the whole movie. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson are likable, but their characters, and the story, really don’t go anywhere. The movie won’t rot your brain, but it won’t stimulate it either.
Rating: Cable TV
Slumdog Millionaire
I think there’s something on your face.
I finally watched the Oscar-winning-feel-good-movie-of-the-year on DVD. Yes, the actors are likable. Yes, the story is predictable. Yes, I’ll watch it if it’s on cable television, but I don’t think I’ll buy the DVD or rent it again. If you have two hours to spend on a movie, this isn’t a bad choice. You won’t have to think about the plot points too much, and it’ll make you, well, feel good.
Rating: Cable TV
Casablanca
Oh Rick!
Casablanca is one of my favorite films. I’ve seen it on VHS, laser disc, and DVD. I anxiously wanted to see this on Blu-ray. I wasn’t disappointed with this rental. The film looks crisp and clean, and it sounds amazing. The amount of extras on this small blu-ray disc is astounding. There are deleted scenes, commentary by Roger Ebert, and documentaries galore about the making of the film.
